HELP!!! My footstomp makes a buzzing sound through my Guitar Amplifier?
Hi, I've built my self a footstomp. It has a boundary pick-up connected to a small PreAmp wired up to an outlet jack. The whole thing is powered by a small battery and works great. However, when I plug it into my guitar amp there is an irritating buzzing sound in the background, as soon as I touch the outlet jack on the footstomp box, the buzzing sound stops, remove my hand and it starts again. I believe this indicates a need for earthing/grounding. If so, Question; how do I ground the footstomp box?
I would greatly appreciate any help out there. Steve
Hello, Steve! At the risk of oversimplification, you just need to make sure you have connected the various ground points in your foot stomp box together. This would include signal ground, which is what you are touching on the outlet jack. This is really not much different than guitar electronics, where the metal parts are electrically coupled to signal ground, all in the interest of circuit continuity and noise reduction.
